We are looking for a Backend Engineer – Node.js / TypeScript to own server-side application logic, REST APIs, and the relational data layer for product services.
The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience with TypeScript, Node.js, Express, and PostgreSQL, along with practical experience using Drizzle ORM or Prisma. You will be responsible for building scalable APIs, designing efficient database structures, optimizing queries, and implementing secure backend services.
You will also have the opportunity to evaluate and pilot Bun as a runtime for latency-sensitive services.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable REST APIs using TypeScript, Node.js, and Express.
- Design relational data models in PostgreSQL and manage database schema migrations using Drizzle ORM or Prisma.
- Own database performance, indexing strategies, query optimization, and data integrity for assigned services.
- Implement authentication, authorization, request validation, and core business logic.
- Build reliable and maintainable backend services following clean coding and API design practices.
- Evaluate and pilot Bun as an alternative runtime for latency-sensitive services.
- Write and maintain integration tests against PostgreSQL.
- Troubleshoot backend performance, reliability, and production issues.
- Collaborate with frontend engineers, product teams, and other stakeholders to deliver end-to-end product functionality.
- Contribute to technical design decisions, code reviews, and engineering best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
- Solid understanding of JavaScript/Node.js asynchronous programming and event loop behavior.
- Production experience building and maintaining REST APIs using Express.js.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, including:
- Database and schema design
- Indexing
- Transactions
- Query optimization
- Data integrity
- Hands-on experience with Drizzle ORM or Prisma, including schema migrations and type-safe query development.
- Strong understanding of API design principles and backend architecture.
- Experience implementing authentication and authorization using patterns such as JWT, OAuth, or session-based authentication.
- Experience writing backend/integration tests, particularly against relational databases.
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with Bun, including its runtime, bundler, test runner, or package manager.
- Experience working with both Drizzle ORM and Prisma.
- Experience with background jobs, asynchronous processing, or message queues.
- Familiarity with React and TanStack is a plus.
- Experience working on performance-sensitive or high-throughput backend services.
- Understanding of cloud-based application deployment and production environments is a plus.
