Role Overview
The Risk Manager is the senior hands-on risk practitioner supporting the Head of Risk for the RCH and the RIE. The role carries the analytical and operational weight of the risk function for both entities: building and running the methodologies behind credit, market, liquidity, counterparty, operational and technology risk, and converting them into the frameworks, models, and reports the Head of Risk presents to governance and regulators.
This is the senior hire in the build-out of a dedicated risk capability for the ADGM entities, reflecting the firm's regulatory commitments on risk substance: FSRA engagement has made dedicated senior risk capacity an explicit supervisory expectation. The Risk Manager is the person who turns that expectation into working control.
The role is personally accountable to the Head of Risk.
Responsibilities
- Policy and regulatory framework: Draft, maintain and operationalise the risk policy suite across the RIE and RCH, including Risk Management Framework, Credit Policy and Procedures, Margin Policy, Collateral Policy, Stress Testing Policy, and related standards. Translate FSRA rulebook requirements into executable policy, and maintain a traceability mapping between policies and rulebook obligations (GEN, PRU, MIR).
- Regulatory coordination: Serve as the operational coordinator for regulatory submissions and engagement across both entities: prepare and assemble prudential reporting deliverables in line with the reporting calendar; coordinate inputs across Finance, risk systems and business teams for completeness and reconciliation; maintain the engagement calendar, information-request tracker and remediation log through to closure; and prepare drafts of prudential notifications and regulatory inquiry responses for the Head of Risk’s review and ownership.
- Risk analytics: Own the risk management toolkit across the RIE and RCH: risk identification and assessment methodologies, KRI dashboards with thresholds, risk register and taxonomy maintenance, and risk reporting packs for governance forums.
- Stress testing: Build and run the stress testing programme: scenario design and calibration, stressed liquidity and capital measures, reverse stress testing, and the quarterly stress test cycle.
- Margin and collateral analytics: Develop and maintain margin and collateral risk methodologies: collateral haircut calibration (volatility and volume-based components, liquidity tiers), concentration and shortfall metrics, and parameter governance materials for quarterly review.
- Incident and prudential assessment: Support the prudential risk assessment within incident escalation: mapping incidents to notification limbs, preparing Decision Records on risk materiality, and drafting the risk sections of post-incident reviews. Standing member of the incident bridge.
- Model risk support: Operate the model inventory: maintain model documentation, run performance monitoring and validation reviews, and prepare model risk reporting for the Risk Committee.
- Risk data and systems: Own the risk data infrastructure: risk engine outputs, exposure aggregation, limit monitoring, reconciliation between risk systems and business systems; manage the queue of data quality issues and uplift requests.
- Governance and business interface: Prepare risk committee and governance papers, risk appetite monitoring, escalation tracking, and the risk pack and engage business lines as the risk counterpart for new product assessments, limit requests, and parameter changes.
Requirements
- 10+ years in risk management within regulated financial institutions: investment banking, clearing house, exchange, prime brokerage, collateralised lending, or equivalent market-infrastructure environments.
- Strong quantitative skills with hands-on methodology
Experience
stress testing design, VaR or tail-risk measures, collateral haircut frameworks, market impact or liquidation analysis. Able to build the model, not only run the report.
- Experience with risk data engineering realities:
exposure aggregation, reconciliation between risk and business systems, and data quality remediation.
- Clear, structured written and verbal communication and be able to produce decision-ready papers, regulatory submissions, and model documentation; comfortable presenting to senior management.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on ambiguous problems: defining the framework when the policy exists only in outline.
- Comfortable working in a high-growth, highly regulated environment where standards, processes, and controls continue to evolve.
- Naturally curious about financial markets, digital assets, market structure, and emerging risk themes.
- Based in Abu Dhabi; presence at ADGM premises as required.
- Desirable: experience engaging with regulators on prudential or market-conduct matters; familiarity with ADGM/FSRA/CBUAE/DFSA/MIFID rulebooks; CFA/FRM or equivalent.
