About the role

Position Summary

At our luxury resort, the Mechanic I plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and seamless operation of all resort facilities. This position is primarily responsible for the maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of critical building systems, including central plant operations, HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing infrastructure, chilled and hot water generation systems, fire life safety systems, and resort utilities.

The Mechanic I supports the resort's commitment to exceptional guest experiences by maintaining luxury standards, ensuring operational reliability, and promoting a safe, healthy environment for guests and colleagues.

Central Plant & Building Systems

  • Troubleshoot, Diagnose, Perform repairs, maintenance, and preventive maintenance of:
  • Central plant equipment
  • HVAC systems
  • Chilled water systems
  • Hot water generation systems
  • Power distribution systems
  • Emergency generators
  • Fire alarm and fire suppression systems
  • Monitor, inspect, and record operating conditions, equipment readings, and performance metrics.
  • Operate and maintain chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air handling units, and related mechanical systems.
  • Schedule and manage energy management systems, including:
  • Allerton Building Management System
  • Inncom Guest Room Energy Management System
  • Conduct mechanical and electrical troubleshooting of facility systems.
  • Repair, align, and maintain pumps, motors, and associated equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and/or lead those positions that support the position.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Maintain accurate preventive maintenance schedules and records.
  • Complete work orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain inventory levels of critical spare parts, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist in forecasting parts and replacement requirements.

Safety and Security Compliance

  • Follow OSHA safety standards and hotel safety procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and refrigeration regulations.
  • Support fire and life-safety inspections.
  • Comply with environmental, safety, and EPA regulations.
  • Leads critical incident in any crisis
  • Follow all resort safety policies, procedures, and emergency response protocols.
  • Comply with all applicable federal, state, county, and company safety requirements.
  • Immediately report workplace accidents, injuries, illnesses, unsafe conditions, property damage, or near-miss incidents.
  • Utilize proper lifting techniques and safe body mechanics.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and uniforms as designated by the position.
  • Follow safe operating procedures when using equipment, tools, machinery, chemicals, or vehicles.
  • Participate in required safety training, drills, certifications, and emergency preparedness programs.
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings to prevent accidents involving guests, employees, contractors, or visitors.
  • Support fire life safety, evacuation procedures, hurricane preparedness, tsunami preparedness, and other emergency response initiatives.
  • Protect confidential guest and employee information in accordance with company policies.
  • Ensure compliance with hotel policies and service standards.
  • Respond to emergencies, accidents, and security concerns.
  • Coordinate with Loss Prevention regarding safety and security matters.
  • Maintain awareness of suspicious activity and security risks.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and company regulations.
  • Promote workplace safety and risk mitigation practices.

Water Systems & Recreation Facilities

  • Conduct chemical testing and water quality management.
  • Maintain swimming pools, spas, ponds, water features, and aquatic systems.

Resort Maintenance

  • Repair and maintain:
  • Masonry
  • Finishes
  • FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment)
  • Guestrooms
  • Back-of-house areas
  • Assist with maintenance and repair of commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to organize and manage the engineering work order system by prioritizing and completing complex work orders with good annotation

Guest Engagement

  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest room maintenance calls.
  • Maintain a strong focus on guest satisfaction and luxury service standards.
  • Communicate effectively with guests and colleagues.
  • Minimize any guest disruption and handling sensitive situations in a professional manner
  • Deliver service consistent with the resort’s luxury brand standards.
  • Maintain professional appearance, grooming and conduct at all times.
  • Demonstrate the spirit of aloha, respect, teamwork and professionalism, a role model for all Accor Values.
  • Provide detailed information regarding resort amenities, restaurants, activities, and local attractions.
  • Anticipate guest needs and proactively offer assistance.
  • Take immediate ownership of guest requests and ensure timely follow-up.
  • Handle guest concerns with empathy, urgency, and professionalism.
  • Support service recovery efforts and communicate opportunities to leadership.
  • Create memorable guest experiences that encourage loyalty and return visitation.
  • Guest Service Commitment (Section 7.a of the Collective Bargaining Agreement)

In addition to the essential functions, this position may

  • Replace HVAC filters and clean coils.
  • Clean air registers and duct systems.
  • Obtain vendor quotations and prepare requisitions.
  • Assist in other engineering disciplines as needed.
  • Participate in department projects and capital improvements.
  • Provide support during emergencies and severe weather events.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by leadership.
  • Train and mentor engineering colleagues when requested.
  • Support sustainability and energy conservation initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • May provide task training and operational guidance to less experienced technicians.
  • May assist with onboarding and cross-training within the department.
  • May lead a project within the hotel with the partnership of Mechanic II, Mechanic III, Mechanic IV

Cleanliness Expectations

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment at all times.
  • Ensure work areas, equipment, tools, storage spaces, and guest-facing areas are kept neat, sanitary, and free of hazards.
  • Adhere to all departmental cleaning and sanitation procedures.
  • Immediately address or report cleanliness concerns that may impact guest satisfaction, health, safety, or resort standards.
  • Support the resort's commitment to luxury hospitality standards.
  • Practice proper handwashing, personal hygiene, and grooming in accordance with resort policies.
  • Properly store and dispose of waste, recyclables, chemicals, and other materials in designated areas.
  • Assist in maintaining the appearance, condition, and presentation of all resort facilities.
  • Promote a culture of pride, accountability, and attention to detail throughout the property.
  • Report pest activity, sanitation concerns, water leaks, mold concerns, or facility deficiencies immediately to management.

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum three (3) years of hospitality, commercial, industrial, or facilities maintenance experience.
  • Experience maintaining HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems.

Preferred

  • Luxury hotel, resort, or Four/Five Diamond experience.
  • Five (5) years of engineering maintenance experience.
  • Experience operating central plant systems and chillers.

Technical Skills

  • Chiller operations and maintenance.
