About the role
Lumotive is pioneering the era of programmable optics—where light is controlled as intelligently and flexibly as software.
At the heart of this transformation is a once-in-a-generation innovation: a flat CMOS-based “general purpose optic.” Lumotive’s Light Control Metasurface (LCM™) beam forming chips can be programmed to function as a beam steering mirror, a lens, mirror, a beam splitter—or any optical function—replacing bulky and mechanical optical components with a fully digital, reconfigurable semiconductor .
This breakthrough lays the foundation for a massive shift in multiple technologies—from 3D sensing and imaging to optical networking, free space optical communication, and beyond. Like the shift from analog to digital in electronics, programmable optics will reshape industries from robotics, self-driving cars, AI, defense, and healthcare.
Lumotive’s first commercial application is in LiDAR, where its software-defined beam steering chips are already enabling compact, high-performance, solid-state sensors. These sensors are being deployed today in smart infrastructure, robotics, and mobility systems through leading module makers and solution integrators.
With more than 200 patents and growing commercial traction, Lumotive is delivering the world’s first digital platform for light—and redefining what’s possible in the optical age.
Lumotive is looking for a temporary Technician for a project. You will run hands-on tests on LCM devices, the solid-state beam-steering chips at the core of Lumotive's products. The work happens in a controlled clean environment and centers on careful handling of delicate optical parts and ability to maintain accurate test records.
This role suits someone who enjoys precise, repeatable lab work and takes pride in getting every detail right.
- Run test equipment to characterize LCM devices according to written test procedures.
- Handle, load and unload optical parts and devices without scratching, contaminating or damaging them.
- Follow clean-environment protocols, including gowning, ESD precautions and workspace cleanliness.
- Inspect parts before and after testing and flag defects, damage or contamination.
- Record test results, part serial numbers and observations accurately in the required logs or systems.
- Report equipment problems, unexpected results or procedure deviations to the engineering lead promptly.
- Keep test stations, fixtures and tools organized, clean and ready for use.
- • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow written procedures exactly.
- Experience working in a controlled clean environment, such as a cleanroom or ESD-controlled lab.
- Careful, steady handling of delicate optical components, lenses or semiconductor parts.
- Experience running test or measurement equipment in a lab or production setting.
- Accurate data entry and basic computer skills.
- Technical certificate or associate degree in electronics, photonics, optics or a related field.
- Prior work in semiconductor, optics or photonics manufacturing or test.
- Familiarity with optical test setups such as lasers, cameras, power meters or alignment stages.
- Comfort using tweezers, vacuum wands and fixtures to handle small parts.
- Work takes place in a controlled clean environment and requires wearing cleanroom gloves and other protective equipment.
- Must be able to sit or stand at a test station for extended periods.
- Must have good near vision and manual dexterity for handling small, fragile parts.
- May involve working near laser sources while following laser safety rules.
