With the combination of AI and enterprise content, the opportunity has never been greater to transform how the world works together and at Box you will be on the front lines of this massive shift.

WHY BOX NEEDS YOU

Box's FinOps team provides visibility into cost and usage across public cloud, SaaS, and AI — equipping finance and executive leadership with the insights needed to make informed decisions, including those tied to earnings communications. As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you will own the design and development of the systems behind this critical work.

You will join a cross-functional team of software engineers, data engineers, site reliability engineers, and data scientists, reporting to a Senior Engineering Manager. This is a technical leadership position that blends hands-on engineering with broader organizational influence — building and operating forecasting, monitoring, and alerting systems while helping advance how engineering teams across Cloud Operations develop software.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own the forecasting, monitoring, and alerting systems for cloud, SaaS, and AI cost and usage, including goals, design, delivery planning, and outcomes.
  • Build and maintain the full technology stack, including data pipelines, processing engines, backend services, APIs, and frontend applications.
  • Design scalable systems that integrate cleanly with others, evaluating trade-offs as complexity grows.
  • Establish and publish engineering practices for design review, testing, code review, documentation, and release processes, and coach engineers until those practices are consistently adopted.
  • Trace cost and usage anomalies to their root cause and communicate findings — including relevant trade-offs — to engineering partners, finance, and executive leadership.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, and review all output before it reaches a forecast, dashboard, or shared practice.
  • Participate in our on-call rotation, available at all times while on-call to help respond to and triage any issues that arise.

WHO YOU ARE

We are an AI-first company. This means you approach your work with a growth mindset and find ways to leverage AI to help make faster, smarter decisions that will 10X your impact at Box.

  • You have 5+ years of experience building production software, with strong proficiency in Python and Django and frontend experience in React and JavaScript.
  • You have experience designing and delivering APIs, and scaling and integrating systems across complex environments.
  • You have hands-on experience with cloud platforms (GCP preferred, AWS also valued) and Kubernetes, including building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
  • You have demonstrated end-to-end ownership of a component, from design and implementation through testing and production operation.
  • You have experience leading cross-team projects and making design decisions with incomplete information, and a track record of improving how a group builds software through review standards, delivery processes, or coaching.
  • You communicate clearly with engineering, finance, and executive audiences, including financial readouts.
