About the Role
The Key Account Manager develops and grows CMI’s transformer business with data center customers, renewable energy developers, battery energy storage system (BESS) companies, and commercial and industrial (C&I) accounts across the United States. The role combines new customer acquisition with strategic account management, early project engagement, and preferred supplier development.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President Sales, U.S., the KAM owns assigned accounts and project pursuits from opportunity identification through commercial award. The KAM works with Inside Sales, the Proposal Engineer, Engineering, Operations, Finance, regional sales managers, and sales representatives to win profitable business with technically sound offers and achievable delivery commitments.
Market development and account ownership
- Develop and execute a prioritized growth plan for the three markets. Identify target accounts, accessible demand, decision-makers, project timing, competition, and gaps in CMI’s product or supplier qualifications.
- Build relationships with data center owners and operators, developers, independent power producers, BESS integrators, EPCs, consulting engineers, industrial owners, OEMs, and relevant sales or channel partners.
- For data centers, pursue supplier qualification, approved vendor status, and engagement with corporate procurement, engineering, and project teams. Identify transformer packages within CMI’s capabilities and coordinate technical approvals.
- For renewables and BESS, identify solar, wind, and storage projects early; map the developer, integrator, EPC, and purchasing responsibilities and position suitable transformer solutions before the bid is finalized.
- For C&I, develop opportunities in industrial facilities, commercial developments, electrification, and infrastructure projects through owners, engineering firms, electrical contractors, and equipment partners.
- Create account plans with relationship maps, project opportunities, next actions, and growth objectives. Develop preferred supplier and framework agreements where commercially justified.
- Lead commercial negotiations and close orders within delegated authority. Develop pricing recommendations, evaluate gross margin, and obtain approvals for discounts and nonstandard terms.
- Review contract requirements with Finance and designated approvers, including payment, warranty, cancellation, price adjustments, liquidated damages, and delivery obligations.
- Own assigned bookings and gross-margin objectives and contribute to revenue planning.
- Maintain an accurate pipeline in designated systems, using CRM when available.
- Represent CMI at customer meetings and relevant industry events. Coordinate with Marketing on targeted campaigns, customer references, and sales materials. Perform other related duties as assigned.
