About the role
Impact Life is seeking a Prevention Specialist to lead and expand substance use prevention, early intervention, overdose prevention, education, and community outreach throughout Sussex County.
This is a community-facing position that will work with individuals, families, schools, healthcare providers, community organizations, and other partners to increase awareness, identify needs early, and connect people to appropriate resources and services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement community-based substance use prevention and early intervention activities.
- Provide education related to substance use, overdose prevention, opioid use disorder, treatment, recovery, and available community resources.
- Conduct and support Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT).
- Provide overdose prevention education and support naloxone education and distribution.
- Conduct outreach throughout Sussex County.
- Connect individuals and families to prevention, treatment, healthcare, recovery, and community resources.
- Build relationships with schools, healthcare providers, community organizations, first responders, and other community partners.
- Participate in community events, presentations, outreach activities, and educational programs.
- Support community partners in strengthening their ability to identify and respond to substance use and overdose risk.
- Coordinate with Impact Life staff to ensure individuals identified through outreach can be connected to appropriate services.
- Track prevention activities, outreach, referrals, training activities, and required program data.
- Participate in quality improvement, evaluation, and grant reporting activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in prevention, public health, behavioral health, social work, human services, education, or a related field.
- Experience in prevention, behavioral health, public health, substance use services, harm reduction, community outreach, education, or a related field.
- Prevention certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
- Knowledge of substance use disorder, overdose prevention, harm reduction, and recovery-oriented services.
- Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience developing community partnerships.
- Comfortable working in community settings and engaging diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to travel throughout Sussex County.
